Carlsberg Group Continues Innovation With Paper Bottle 3.0

Carlsberg Group is continuing innovation on its paper beer bottle after it launched Version 2.0 in eight European markets last June. Version 2.0 is made of a wood fiber shell, with an inner lining injection stretch blow molded of PEF and a steel crown. Instead of using an inner component injection stretch blow molded of PEF, Version 3.0 will have an inner coating of PEF. This will use less PEF, bringing cost savings as well as environmental impact advantages. Carlsberg is also partnering with Blue Ocean Closures to develop a fiber-based screw cap solution at industrial scale. Carlsberg projects that Version 3.0 will achieve up to 80 percent less emissions than current single-use glass bottles.

It will continue to innovate the premium category through unique distillation and ageing techniques, styles, finishes and other levers. Beam Suntory also recognizes potential for the whiskey category to grown globally and within the U.S. through pushing different drinking styles and occasions.

Suntory APAC Is Exploring Alternative Packaging

Suntory APAC plans to deliver on its sustainability ambitions through a simultaneous focus on the development of alternative packaging materials and better recycling infrastructure. In Asia, sustainability efforts mainly focus on establishing recycling infrastructure, as opposed to the reduction and replacement of plastic. However, Suntory believes plastic reduction and alternative development are also necessary to make a meaningful difference. Suntory is currently exploring methods to minimize the volume and weight of its packaging and experimenting with fibrous, humidity-resistant materials. Suntory will continue its recycling efforts, with a goal to achieve 100 percent recyclable packaging by 2030.
